Hi - I'm Vasiliy Astapov - C/C++ programmer since 1991 year.  Mostly I did application that deal with large amount of data and require large amount of concurrent users access. So, my first computer was IBM XT 4MGz 512K RAM 5M HDD - I always did a lot of optimization and productivity increasing. Goto Database Programming at Codeguru to see my article. C / C++ has better performance against Java
UNIX is a best server platform
vi is easier in use then Emacs
Perl is a best developer PLATFORM for web with great capabilities and choice of modules
